MADELYN SIMON LOZANO - Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, March 23, 1954, she obtained a B.A. degree, cum laude, in journalism in 1975 and an M.A. degree, with honors, in education in 1980, both from Kent State University (Ohio). She received her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from the University of Miami in 1987, where she was inducted into the Order of the Coif, having graduated in the top ten percent of her class.  While in law school, she was an editor for the Inter-American Law Review.

After graduation, Ms. Lozano served as senior judicial clerk to the Honorable Joseph Nesbitt, Florida Third District Court of Appeal from 1987 through 1992. She is admitted to practice before the Florida Bar (1987); the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida (1991); the U.S. Court of Appeals, 11th Circuit (1992) and the U.S. Court of Appeals, 3rd Circuit (2000). She is the author of “Project SAVE ( Systematic Alien Verification Enforcement): Can It Work?” University of Miami Inter-American Law Review, Spring, 1987 and “Experts: Is the End Near For Their Use?” Southern Methodist University Journal of Air Law and Commerce, Fall 1993.

Ms. Lozano focuses her practice in the areas of civil appellate practice and litigation support in both state and federal courts, with an emphasis on commercial matters, construction litigation, insurance defense and general litigation support. She is fluent in Spanish and experienced in various aspects of Latin American law. Ms. Lozano has served as a member of the Florida Bar Appellate Court Rules Committee and serves as a land commissioner in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida East Everglades Land Acquisition Project.

She is also a certified volunteer guardian ad litem in the juvenile dependency courts of the 11th Judicial Circuit for Miami-Dade County, Florida.
